Week of 11/25
Wishing you all a warm and cozy holiday weekend with friends and family. We had a short week and missed our friends who were away traveling early. We look forward to hearing about everyone’s travels and time spent with loved ones when we’re back next week. Please enjoy some short and sweet highlights from our Prospect Park trips this week.
During snack with the Flying Squirrels, a hungry red-tailed hawk swooped in close by allowing for close-up views as this hawk hunted for food. It settled into a nearby tree and spent a whole hopping up and down branches chasing a fast squirrel around and around the trunk. The hawk stayed nearby our whole trip but seemed unable to catch any prey.
Squeaky Mice were also able to view the red-tail hawk hunting! Back at the play spot, some friends dug for worms and pirate treasure while others played a train game on some logs. we spoke about treasure maps, X marks the spot, and what kinds of things would be a good treasure. Examples included: “jewelry, ” “fruit punch, ” and “orange juice”
The Spiders had a rainy, yet mild, day in the park, perfect for mushroom hunting! the crew found three types of mushrooms, including a squishy "jelly roll" species. Back at the play spot, the crew worked to make a mud pie for a raccoon, cooking the pie "really hot". Comments from the kitchen included: “It’s in the broiler where we cook the pie” and “This is a pie stick it’s a pie stirrer.” The crew was sure the pie would be tempting enough to lure the raccoon out of its hollow.
The Laughing Ladybugs had a small crew for one of their first really rainy park trips. The crew donned their rain gear and enjoyed a rainy park day, exploring puddles on a hike. Puddles were splashed in and the Ladybugs experimented with throwing sticks and rocks into the puddles to see what would happen.
Wednesday, the Marigolds crew settled into Tupelo Nook for a snack before taking a group hike into the Ravine. The group visited Boulder Bridge, enjoying the view from the top. Along the way, they collected acorn caps and were lucky enough to find a wormy larvae that was much loved and admired by the Marigold crew. We'll miss you larvae!
With Gratitude,
