Our classes are mixed age for children ages 2 - 5. Our play based philosophy and child-driven curriculum allow for children to be engaged and inspired to explore, observe, and learn in nature. Along with daily trips to Prospect Park, kids and teachers enjoy Wonderforest's beautiful new physical location with 5 classrooms, an indoor play area, and a water table for inside fun as well. Our class sizes are small with a low student to teacher ratio. This small and dynamic community and environment make working at Wonderforest Nature Preschool both exciting and an opportunity for growth.

Because we believe that these communities must be centered in the work of creating safe spaces for all children, we strongly encourage people from underrepresented groups, such as BIPOC or LGBTQIA+ communities, to apply.

We have both part-time and full-time assistant positions available. In addition to their salary, full-time employees are eligible for an annual health insurance reimbursement in the amount of $4800.

Candidates should:

  • Be comfortable & prepared to work outdoors in all types of weather.

  • Have a love for, and experience working with young children.

  • Have an interest in nature, animals, and the outdoors.

  • Be willing to get messy and immerse themselves in child-directed play and discovery.

  • Have strong interpersonal skills.

  • Be responsible, patient, and punctual.

  • Be comfortable collaborating with a team of teachers.

  • Be flexible and adaptable to our changing logistics and environment at all times.

    Qualifications

    Full-time Lead Teacher Candidates must currently hold one of the following to qualify:

  • BA in Early Childhood Education or a related field and valid NYS Teaching Certification

  • BA in Early Childhood Education and two years of supervised and documented work in a preschool program

  • A study plan approved by an accredited college to gain a BA and NYS Teaching Certification within 7 years.

    Assistant Teacher Candidates must currently hold one of the following to qualify:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Associates or Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field (either in progress or completed) is not required, but strongly preferred

    *All Candidates must also have experience working with groups of children between the ages of 2 - 5
